Proposition 8

As I plan my wedding, I must mention my outrage at the citizens of California who took away the rights of others to be married by ammending their state constitution to define marriage as between one man and one woman.  This is injustice as plain as day.  The government has no business deciding who can and who cannot love, share a life together, share property and rights, and happiness.  Religion, morality, and all else aside, proposition 8 was pure bigotry.  The government is not a place to legislate morality or religion.  And if we take that out of the equation then marriage, like all other government services, should be open to everyone or no one.  Religious marriages and civil marriages are different things and we should keep them separated to protect them both.  So, proposition 8, this is what I have to say to you:

Let Freedom Ring (click here for the full post, a part of which I copied below)

“I awoke this morning to learn that my relationship with my partner is no longer deemed valid. It’s no longer legal for gay couples to marry. Gay relationships are somehow sub-par, not equivalent, and no longer worthy of protection. And you know what? I’m pissed and tired of holding it in.

“I decided to snap a photo of my ring placed on a slightly different finger than normal to express exactly how I feel toward every single person who voted Yes on Prop 8. It’s my personal version of ‘let freedom ring’. The battle for equality changes course but it’s very far from over.

“I welcome supporters of gay rights to snap your own photo showing your wedding ring on your middle finger. Spread the word that this fight isn’t over. Whether you’re gay, straight, bi, white, blue or tan — show your support by letting freedom ring on your blog then go here to log it for everyone to see!”
